The WHY behind what we do
I trained and began my clinical career in New York City. Most of my colleagues were psychodynamic therapists. They focused on having the patient talk about and, eventually, gain insight into their issues. The goal was that insight would lead to change. My doctoral program strongly recommended that we go to therapy so that we could understand what it was like to be in the patient’s seat. Given that I was dealing with severe anxiety as a result of working and going to graduate school full time, I thought that would be useful. I saw a great psychodynamic therapist for over a year. She was a terrific source of support and I developed a lot of insight into some past issues. However, I didn’t get any real tools or strategies. I had all of this information, but nothing that answered the question “so now what?”
At around the same time, I was introduced to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I really liked the idea that there were tools and strategies that could change how you think and feel. In fact, they rewired your brain. I sought out specialized training at the Center for Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy. Once I started seeing CBT in action for anxiety disorders, OCD, and life stressors, I was completely hooked. My patients were using these tools every day and were seeing the benefits. They were managing symptoms, reducing anxiety, and reaching life goals that mattered so much. I was using these strategies in my own life and could see how I was making better choices and improving my health.
I have now been in the field of mental health for 15 years. CBT tools have allowed me to help people in hospital, private practice, and corporate settings. I opened Bucks County Anxiety Center for two key reasons:
This practice makes gold standard CBT for anxiety and OCD easy to access right in your area. People who are dealing with anxiety, especially related to OCD, often spend years looking for specialized treatment. They may see other therapists who help them talk it out but provide few, if any, strategies that make a difference. So many people with OCD are misdiagnosed and/or receive treatment that makes them worse. We serve patients from Bucks, Montgomery, Philadelphia, and Mercer counties. There is no need to travel to NYC or Philadelphia.
You should not have to feel judged, ashamed, or alone. We are anxiety and OCD specialists. We are used to hearing about the thoughts and feelings you are embarrased to talk about. We want you to come in and lay it all out there. It will actually help you get better faster.
Here’s to your strength, clarity, and happiness. Please contact us now to set up an appointment so that we can help you get on the right path.
